    Backenstose began his career teaching agriculture in the Derry Township schools.  He describes his military service during World War II and his return home and plan to study medicine.  He discusses the difficulties of balancing family needs and medical school.  Backenstone lists Hershey doctors and describes his experience opening his own practice.  He describes treating HERCO employees, including members of the Hershey Bears hockey team. He refused a staff position with Hershey Medical Center when it opened.  He offers his viewpoint of the Medical Center, changes in town, and attitudes.  Backenstone describes his responsibilities as Medical Director of the Milton Hershey School from 1968-1982 and as a board member for the Hershey Bank from 1974-1985.  Backenstone also discusses his activities as chair of the Four Diamonds Fund and as a member of the Advisory Committee for  the Hershey Museum
