    In the first of a series of interviews, former Hershey Foods Corporation Chief Executive Officer Richard A. Zimmerman describes his service in the United States Navy, education at Penn State, and early employment history in commercial credit financial services.  Zimmerman discusses his decision to join Hershey Chocolate Corporation in 1958, the interview process, and his impressions of the company.  A large portion of the interview focuses on company president Samuel Hinkle.  Zimmerman describes Hinkle’s personality, management style, his concern for the Milton Hershey School Trust, and interest in developing Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.  Additional topics include: P.A. Staples; the company’s financial support of community services; entrance into the Canadian market; Harold S. Mohler; and the decision to undertake market research and advertising.
